Mr. Kaplan is a 1993 graduate of Loyola Law School, located in Los Angeles, California. He has been an attorney for more than 20 years. In 1989, Mr. Kaplan graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science. Prior to becoming an attorney, Jeffrey worked as an accountant where he obtained experience in public accounting, including but not limited to performing audits, preparing financial statements and providing income tax services.
Mr. Kaplan is admitted to practice law in the courts of the State of California and in the Central District of the United States District Court. He has also argued several matters in the California Court of Appeal. He has spent the last 22 years defending professionals, including but not limited to, accountants, appraisers, home inspectors, real estate agents and brokers and insurance agents and brokers and developers, general contractors and subcontractors.
He has defended more than 2,000 professionals in his career in most counties of the Superior Court for the State of California, the U.S. District Court and in private binding arbitrations. He has been very successful in obtaining defense verdicts, awards and resolving matters with very favorable results for his clients. He is trusted by all professionals and insurers to handle very complex cases throughout the State of California. He is retained outside of the County of Los Angeles due to his specialized knowledge. His clients recognize that they receive his outstanding effort and legal acumen that is more cost effective than retaining a local defense attorney. He speaks at local, state and national trade associations about loss prevention and how best to defend oneself against a professional malpractice claim.
A substantial portion of his practice includes the defense of general contractors, subcontractors and developers. He has handled more than 600 construction defect claims. He has a very strong relationship with the preeminent neutrals that serve as mediators, special masters and discovery referees in construction defect matters.
In addition, he has several carrier clients for which he performs insurance coverage work, including, but not limited to, defending against bad faith lawsuits and intervening on the carriers’ behalf, preparing coverage opinions, drafting reservation of rights letters and providing general legal advice to carriers on numerous coverage related concerns. He regularly provides seminars to carriers to keep them apprised of new developments in insurance coverage.
Mr. Kaplan is a member
of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, the Defense Research Institute,
the Professional Liability Underwriting Society and Jewish Big Brothers
and Sisters. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife and three daughters.
